The product of an introductory Architecture studio, the Grotto + Altana explores the contrast between a dark, solid, introspective space and a warm, airy, outward-focused space while exploring site context. The structure takes up a small footprint in a narrow sloped site to prevent obstruction of views, while creating new places to view from. It exists as one structure, though offers very different experiences and aims to create a harmonious transition between spaces.
